The South Street Seaport is our closest stretch of waterfront, and it's an easy walk from the suite. Head east on John or Fulton toward the East River and you're there in about 7 minutes. This is the old port part of Lower Manhattan, the cobblestone blocks where the city's shipping used to run, and it's kept a lot of that low-rise, brick-and-cobble feel while the rest of the neighborhood went tall and glass.
What you actually come here for: dinner and drinks by the water, a rooftop at Pier 17, and the view. The stretch along the river gives you one of the clearest looks at the Brooklyn Bridge you'll get from the Manhattan side, and it's free. Mornings are quiet and good for a walk or a coffee by the piers. Evenings pick up, especially in warm months when the rooftop has events on.
Because it's so close, a lot of our guests treat the Seaport as their default easy night out. You can walk down, eat, have a drink looking at the bridge, and be back at 17 John in ten minutes. Here's what's worth your time.
