Cómo ir del Distrito Financiero a Times Square

The short version

Uptown 2 or 3 from Fulton St. It runs express up the west side and stops at Times Sq-42 St, so you get on downtown and get off in Times Square without changing trains. Budget 15 minutes on the train and a few more for stairs and waiting.

Fulton St is the big transfer station at Broadway and Fulton, a couple of minutes' walk from John Street. Follow signs for the 2/3 uptown platform, and check the front of the train: both the 2 and the 3 work.

The other ways, and when they're worth it

R or W from Cortlandt St. Also lands at Times Sq-42 St, but it's a local up Broadway and stops everywhere. Closer to 25 minutes. Take it if you're already standing at Cortlandt St or you want a seat, since it's usually emptier.

A or C to 42 St-Port Authority. Gets you one block west of Times Square, at 42nd and Eighth. If your theater is on the west end of 42nd or you're catching a bus at Port Authority, this is the better exit. The A is express and quick.

Taxi or rideshare. 25 minutes at 10 a.m. on a Sunday, 45 minutes at 5:30 p.m. on a Wednesday. The FDR and the West Side Highway both bog down at rush hour, and there's no scenic version of this trip. We only suggest it late at night with luggage.

Walking. About four miles up Broadway, roughly an hour and a half. It's a genuinely good walk once, through Tribeca, SoHo and the Flatiron, if you've got the afternoon. It is not a way to get to an 8 p.m. curtain.

Going the other direction, late

Coming back downtown after a show, the 2 and 3 run all night and the ride is quieter than the ride up. The Financial District at 11 p.m. is calm in a way Midtown never is, which is most of the reason people like staying down here and commuting up for the evening rather than the other way round.
