Service Dogs at 17 John: Yes, and With No Pet Fee
We get this question from people who've been told "no dogs" by three places in a row, so let's be plain about it.
Service dogs: yes, no pet fee. A service dog stays with you at no extra charge. Our normal guest damage policy still applies, which is the same policy that applies to every stay whether there's a dog in the room or not, so nothing changes there.
Pets: no. We don't accept pets at the property. That's a flat policy, and it's part of why we can keep the suites clean for guests with allergies. So if you're comparing us to a pet-friendly hotel, we're not one. Service animals are a separate thing.
Tell us before you arrive. Send us a message ahead of your stay so the team knows to expect you. Check-in is self-service through a smart lock with instructions sent the day before, and our front desk is staffed 24/7, so there's always someone in the building if you need something sorted at an odd hour.
Why the suite layout helps. Our apartments have full kitchens, and some layouts include a washer and dryer. If you're in town for a week or more with a working dog, being able to feed on your own schedule and wash a bed cover without leaving the building takes a lot of friction out of the trip. There's also room on the floor for a dog to actually lie down, which isn't a given in a standard hotel room.
Getting out for relief breaks. The Financial District is short on lawn but not on air. Battery Park sits at the bottom of the island with real green space, and the harbor edge along the water is an easy walk from us. On weekends the streets down here are quiet, which makes early mornings and late evenings straightforward.
If you're planning a stay and want to talk through the specifics before you book, message us. We'd rather answer the awkward questions in advance than have you arrive uncertain.
