The Financial District isn't the first neighborhood anyone names for pizza, and for years that was fair. It's better now. There's a proper slice shop on Fulton Street, a square-pie place with outdoor tables on Stone Street, and two of the best pizzerias in the city sitting a few subway stops north.
We get asked about this constantly, usually around 7 p.m. by someone who has been walking since Battery Park and doesn't want a whole production. So here's the short version. If you want a slice in your hand in ten minutes, walk to Joe's. If you want to sit down with a pie and a beer outside, walk to Adrienne's. If it's Saturday and you've got an hour, take the J to Scarr's.
All walk times below are from our door at 17 John Street. Nothing here is more than a few blocks or a couple of stops, and one of the nice things about staying down here is that you can bring the leftovers back and put them in the fridge in your suite.
