Stone Street Oktoberfest is the best street party in the Financial District, and it's the one weekend event down here that reliably pulls people from other boroughs. The organizers have confirmed it's back for September 2026, running on consecutive Saturdays into late October, noon until 11pm. Check stonestreetnyc.com for the exact Saturday list before you book anything around it, because the dates shift a little year to year.
If you've never been: Stone Street is a two-block cobblestone lane between Broad Street and Hanover Square, closed to cars, lined end to end with restaurants and bars. On a normal warm evening the whole block is already outdoor tables. For Oktoberfest they lean into it properly. German beer by the litre, brats, giant pretzels, communal benches, and a polka band. The organizers have listed BB and the Polkahaus playing at 3pm on the first couple of Saturdays. It's cheerful rather than rowdy in the afternoon, and it gets loud as the evening goes on, which is a fair warning and also the point.
What the day actually looks like
Go early if you want a table. Doors and tables open at noon, and the block fills through the afternoon. The 2pm to 5pm window is the sweet spot: full atmosphere, still possible to move, still possible to hear the person across the bench. After about 6pm you're standing, and by 9pm the block is shoulder to shoulder. Nobody needs a ticket to walk down Stone Street, but individual restaurants take their own reservations and run their own beer service, so if you're a group of six or more it's worth calling one of them directly earlier in the week.
Dress for a cobblestone street in October. It's a canyon of old buildings, the sun drops behind them early, and it gets colder than the forecast suggests once you're sitting still on a bench. Flat shoes. The cobbles are the real thing, not decorative.
Getting there, and getting back
From our door at 17 John Street it's about eight minutes on foot: head south, and Stone Street sits just north of Hanover Square. That's the practical reason to stay in the Financial District for this one. The people who have the worst night at Oktoberfest are the ones standing on a platform at 11pm trying to get back to Midtown or Brooklyn. The people who have the best night walk home in ten minutes with a pretzel.
If you're coming in for the day rather than staying, the closest subways are the 2/3 at Wall Street, the 4/5 at Bowling Green or Wall Street, and the J/Z and 2/3/4/5/A/C at Fulton Street. All of them put you within a five to eight minute walk.
Making a weekend of it
Oktoberfest is an afternoon-into-evening thing, which leaves the whole morning free, and September and October are the best weeks of the year down here. The Financial District is quiet on weekends, the harbor air is cool, and the waterfront walk from Battery Park up to the Brooklyn Bridge is a genuinely good two hours before you start on beer. The Seaport is a five-minute walk east if you want lunch by the water first, and the 9/11 Memorial is about ten minutes northwest.
